The Franklin London Restaurant Review (2026): Michelin-Level Italian Dining in Knightsbridge

Tucked discreetly within one of Knightsbridge’s most elegant residential enclaves, The Franklin London restaurant remains one of the capital’s most under-the-radar Italian fine dining experiences.

Led by Michelin-starred chef Alfredo Russo, the restaurant offers an intimate, design-led alternative to London’s more high-profile dining rooms, with a strong focus on refined Italian cuisine and seasonal precision.

For travellers exploring the best luxury hotels in London, The Franklin’s restaurant is one of the most compelling reasons to stay in this boutique property.

It also sits comfortably within the broader landscape of the best boutique hotels in Europe, where dining is an extension of the hotel’s identity rather than a separate experience.

A Hidden Knightsbridge Dining Room with Only 30 Seats

The Franklin restaurant is intentionally small, with just around 30 covers, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a private dining salon than a public restaurant.

Located within a garden-facing space inside The Franklin hotel, the setting is calm, controlled and deliberately exclusive.

Interiors designed by Anouska Hempel reinforce this feeling, with deep velvet textures, marble tables, Venetian mirrors and soft lighting creating a theatrical yet intimate dining environment.

The result is a space where conversation, service and food take precedence over volume or spectacle.

Chef Alfredo Russo: Michelin Heritage in London

At the heart of the restaurant is chef Alfredo Russo, best known for his Michelin-starred restaurant Dolce Stil Novo in Turin.

His approach to the London menu reflects decades of fine dining experience, combining Northern and Southern Italian influences with a modern, minimalist philosophy.

Rather than complexity for its own sake, the cuisine focuses on clarity, balance and high-quality ingredients.

The Dining Experience

Dining at The Franklin is structured around a calm, refined pace.

Guests are welcomed with house olive oil and freshly baked bread, followed by a menu that showcases Italian classics with modern interpretation.

Standout dishes include:

  • Kale lasagna with anchovy and creamy greens
  • Fresh sea bass with tomato, red onion and basil
  • Lamb from Cumbria with roasted vegetables and delicate seasoning
  • Scallops with yellow pepper cream and spice notes
  • Aubergine tortino with tomato confit and buffalo mozzarella

Each plate is presented with precision, often resembling contemporary art rather than traditional plating.

The wine list complements the menu with a strong Italian focus, including selections from the chef’s own curated range.

Signature Dish: The Kale Lasagna

One of the most talked-about dishes remains the kale lasagna, a reinterpretation of the Italian classic.

It balances rich, creamy textures with green vegetables and anchovy depth, creating a dish that feels both comforting and refined.

This is a strong example of the restaurant’s philosophy: familiar Italian flavours elevated through restraint and technique.

Atmosphere: Private Dining in Knightsbridge

What defines The Franklin restaurant more than anything is its atmosphere.

With limited seating, service is highly attentive and unintrusive, allowing guests to enjoy a quiet, uninterrupted dining experience.

Unlike many central London restaurants, there is no sense of rush or volume pressure. Instead, the experience feels deliberately paced, almost residential in tone.

This reinforces the wider identity of The Franklin as a boutique luxury hotel rather than a conventional dining venue.

Food Philosophy

The kitchen describes its approach as “flavours that are easy to understand”, which reflects the broader philosophy behind the menu.

Rather than experimental gastronomy, the focus is on:

  • Seasonal ingredients
  • Italian culinary heritage
  • Refined execution
  • Balanced presentation
  • Clean, identifiable flavours

This makes it particularly appealing to travellers seeking elevated Italian cuisine without conceptual complexity.

Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare or a grand lobby to announce its presence. That is exactly how Finca Victoria arrived in Sa Riera—a restored estate where the pine-covered hills and Mediterranean set the tone before you even step inside.

Opened in 2025 after careful renovation of a historic property, it captures something rare on the Costa Brava: the feeling of having discovered a corner that hasn't yet lost its soul. Just thirty-eight rooms, all adults over fourteen, spread across what feels more like a private summer house than a resort determined to impress from the first moment. The central cloister anchors everything, with warm stone arches, ceramics, and Catalan tuff flooring that gives you a sense of place without leaning too hard on nostalgia.

The food alone tells you this was done with intention. AlKostat del Mar, led by chef Jordi Vilà, serves seasonal Catalan cooking rooted in local produce and fire. A rice dish can become the reason you're traveling somewhere new. Breakfast stretches from eight until eleven with made-to-order hot options alongside a carefully edited buffet—eggs Benedict with salmon, avocado toast, regional specialties like black butifarra with beans—that makes rushing feel unnecessary.

But what lingers is the room itself. In our Terrace Suite, nearly sixty square metres overlooked both sea and the rolling hills of Begur. The bathroom held both bathtub and rainfall shower. An outdoor shower faced sideways toward the horizon. These details don't shout; they settle into your memory slowly.

Spa appointments run through the Victoria Wellness Spa with water circuits, saunas, jacuzzis, and sensory treatments—all requiring advance booking, which somehow makes the peace even sweeter when you arrive. Morning yoga happens inside one of the suites, sunlight filling the space as you ground yourself into the day rather than race through it.

There is a complimentary shuttle to Begur village until late evening, and the beach is literally a short walk away. Private boat trips can be arranged for up to six people. Paddleboards, loungers, anything on the water the hotel can help coordinate through external partners. Yet even with
