The Franklin London Review (2026): A Hidden Luxury Boutique Hotel in Knightsbridge

Editor’s Note (Updated for 2026):

This article has been fully updated for 2026 to reflect the latest luxury travel trends, new hotel openings, and seasonal guides.

In a city defined by iconic grand hotels and international flagships, The Franklin London offers something far more intimate: a discreet, townhouse-style luxury hideaway in the heart of Knightsbridge.

Set within a row of elegant Victorian Grade II-listed townhouses overlooking Egerton Gardens, this boutique hotel feels more like a private residence than a traditional city hotel.

For travellers researching the best luxury hotels in London, The Franklin remains one of the capital’s most distinctive boutique stays.

Unlike larger five-star properties in Mayfair or Park Lane, The Franklin focuses on privacy, design-led interiors and personalised service, making it especially appealing for returning luxury travellers seeking discretion and calm.

Travellers exploring curated stays such as the best boutique hotels in Europe will immediately recognise its residential, Italian-inspired aesthetic.

A Knightsbridge Townhouse Reimagined as a Private Residence

The Franklin London occupies a series of interconnected Victorian townhouses that have been reimagined into a cohesive luxury boutique hotel.

Behind its classic red-brick London façade lies a dramatically different interior world influenced by Italian design, Venetian palazzi and contemporary artistic luxury.

The design transformation was led by renowned designer Anouska Hempel, known for her theatrical, atmospheric interiors and strong architectural storytelling.

The result is a hotel that feels deliberately concealed from the outside world, reinforcing its identity as a private urban sanctuary rather than a public-facing luxury property.

Lobby & Arrival Experience

The arrival experience is intentionally dramatic.

Guests step from a traditional Knightsbridge street into a dimly lit, richly textured interior defined by marble surfaces, velvet seating, sculptural furniture and lush greenery.

Rather than a conventional reception desk, check-in is handled from marble centre tables, reinforcing the sense of informality and exclusivity.

The atmosphere is more akin to entering a private members’ residence than a hotel lobby, which is central to The Franklin’s identity.

Rooms & Suites

The Franklin features 35 rooms and suites, each designed with a consistent aesthetic that blends Italian elegance with contemporary comfort.

Rooms include Junior Suites, One Bedroom Suites and a Presidential Suite, many featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and Juliet balconies overlooking Egerton Gardens.

Interiors are defined by mirrored surfaces, bespoke furnishings and soft lighting, creating a cocoon-like atmosphere in contrast to the busy city outside.

Beds are custom-designed four-poster styles, paired with high-quality Italian linens and thoughtful in-room details such as integrated USB charging, evening turndown service and curated amenities.

Bathrooms continue the luxury theme with Italian stone finishes, rain showers and deep bathtubs designed for a spa-like experience.

Dining at The Franklin Restaurant

Dining is a key part of The Franklin experience, with the garden-facing restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Alfredo Russo.

The cuisine is Italian-inspired, focusing on high-quality ingredients and refined execution rather than complexity.

Breakfast is particularly strong, combining a generous buffet with à la carte options such as baked eggs, frittatas and fresh pastries.

The setting overlooking Egerton Gardens reinforces the hotel’s residential atmosphere, offering one of the most peaceful breakfast experiences in Knightsbridge.

Champagne Bar & Social Spaces

One of the most distinctive features of The Franklin is its intimate Champagne and cocktail bar.

Designed in a Gatsby-inspired style, it offers an extensive selection of Champagne and premium spirits, including a curated gin list.

The space is deliberately small, reinforcing exclusivity and ensuring a quiet, controlled atmosphere ideal for pre-dinner drinks or private evenings.

Unlike many London hotel bars, this is not a high-traffic venue, but a discreet space designed for guests rather than external crowds.

Wellness Floor: Hammam & Gym

The Franklin also includes a dedicated wellness level, featuring a compact gym and a traditional hammam-style spa space.

The hammam is the standout feature, offering a calm, warm environment designed for relaxation and recovery after a day in the city.

Personal training sessions and wellness treatments can also be arranged on request, reinforcing the hotel’s focus on tailored guest experiences.

This is not a large-scale luxury hotel, but a highly curated, intimate urban retreat.

Final Verdict: Is The Franklin London Worth Staying At in 2026?

The Franklin London remains one of the most distinctive boutique hotels in Knightsbridge.

Its strength lies in its intimacy: residential design, strong service culture, and an atmosphere that feels more like a private townhouse than a hotel.

Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare or a grand lobby to announce its presence. That is exactly how Finca Victoria arrived in Sa Riera—a restored estate where the pine-covered hills and Mediterranean set the tone before you even step inside.

Opened in 2025 after careful renovation of a historic property, it captures something rare on the Costa Brava: the feeling of having discovered a corner that hasn't yet lost its soul. Just thirty-eight rooms, all adults over fourteen, spread across what feels more like a private summer house than a resort determined to impress from the first moment. The central cloister anchors everything, with warm stone arches, ceramics, and Catalan tuff flooring that gives you a sense of place without leaning too hard on nostalgia.

The food alone tells you this was done with intention. AlKostat del Mar, led by chef Jordi Vilà, serves seasonal Catalan cooking rooted in local produce and fire. A rice dish can become the reason you're traveling somewhere new. Breakfast stretches from eight until eleven with made-to-order hot options alongside a carefully edited buffet—eggs Benedict with salmon, avocado toast, regional specialties like black butifarra with beans—that makes rushing feel unnecessary.

But what lingers is the room itself. In our Terrace Suite, nearly sixty square metres overlooked both sea and the rolling hills of Begur. The bathroom held both bathtub and rainfall shower. An outdoor shower faced sideways toward the horizon. These details don't shout; they settle into your memory slowly.

Spa appointments run through the Victoria Wellness Spa with water circuits, saunas, jacuzzis, and sensory treatments—all requiring advance booking, which somehow makes the peace even sweeter when you arrive. Morning yoga happens inside one of the suites, sunlight filling the space as you ground yourself into the day rather than race through it.

There is a complimentary shuttle to Begur village until late evening, and the beach is literally a short walk away. Private boat trips can be arranged for up to six people. Paddleboards, loungers, anything on the water the hotel can help coordinate through external partners. Yet even with
