Five ethical and eco-friendly stylish outfits to wear from sustainable fashion labels when Dubrovnik.
Croatia is a hot Mediterranean country and Dubrovnik, one of the cities in the southern part of the country and fronting the Adriatic Sea, is a gorgeous sea-town with beautiful beaches, delicious seafood (amongst other dishes) and wonderful weather. The location of the coastline means that it boasts hot weather, perfect for the summer months and a water-filled holiday. One month that is especially good to visit is September when tourist spots might be less busy, and thus stuffy than usual and the weather is simply amazing. I’ve put together five gorgeous outfits to wear for various activities on this fun-filled September holiday to Croatia. Not only is the fashion suitable for the weather, but the outfits posted here are ethical and eco-friendly, as the brands are sustainable. Before we launch ahead, there is just one thing to remember with all these outfits in mind – sunglasses!
Outfit #1 – To the beach
There are various beaches in Dubrovnik and most of them are clear, sandy beaches, meaning you can spend up to a whole day chilling on the seafront, taking a dip in the water and sunbathing until you get that gorgeous shade of sun-kissed skin. However, in June, the temperature is well over twenty degrees, especially near the end of the month, so it might be better to pack a few things more than the usual bikini. What you definitely want to bring to shade yourself from burning is a light outerwear, such as a thin kimono or, since you cannot ride on public buses with just a swimsuit, what might be more suitable is to wear a light, summery dress on top of your swimsuit and just easily take that off when you arrive at the beach. You will also definitely want to bring sandals that shade the bottom of your feet because, when you step on that sand, your feet will not be able to make it for more than a few seconds. Further, everyone is out there having fun in the sea, bathing on the sunbeds or sand, so you definitely want to bring a big beach towel. For the main outfit – the swimsuit – if you are confident, why not go flaunt beauty with a cool bikini? Since it is a hot country, a bright-coloured swimsuit might also be very suitable. Since you will also have your feet out most of the time, a cute anklet might just work well!
Outfit #2 – Café time
The Old Town in Dubrovnik boasts a few hidden gems – cafes, to be exact – those that serve home-made drinks and, for some, special cocktails. Fitting with the cute cafes and summery drinks, you might want to wear an accordingly refreshing but not too glamorous outfit – one that is comfortable, but also cute at the same time. Why not try a simple skirt or shorts and a non-formal blouse made of a summery texture to let out the cool? Flat sandals are also in if you’re going to be walking around all day with the sun shining down and especially if you’re going to be touring Old Town, in which there is pebbled ground. There isn’t really much shade in Old Town, so it’s best if you wear lighter, brighter colours, rather black – maybe wearing something beige for the bottom and something more colourful for the top might be suitable.
Outfit #3 – To a restaurant in the evening
Dubrovnik boasts a plethora of elegant restaurants with a delicious menu for the evening meals with class. If you travel further north and up to the top of the infamous Mount Srd, there is also a restaurant which boasts a beautiful, panoramic view of the whole of Dubrovnik below. To suit this elegant evening, an elegant outfit is also in order. Whilst it is a little cooler in the evening, it is still quite hot especially if you intend on walking around to get to the place. Also, some places have air conditioning or might have outdoor seating, but you might not get this option, so it is good to take a little bit of freedom and bring a small cardigan or something similar to wear on top if you are the type of person who easily gets chilly in air conditioning. A classy one-piece dress is in order for a classy night and, although heels might be suitable for some, if you intend on walking all night, those won’t really be of much help to you. Some formal flats might be a better option, and a cute little bag to match if you want to carry around your personal belongings. Jewellery is always a good final touch to add to your look – depending on the outfit, the colour of the jewellery might change, but it’s always fancy to wear some gold or silver to brighten your look.
Outfit #4 – To the Castle
There are many, many steps for the infamous Dubrovnik Castle Walls tour and, although it is an essential part of the holiday and a piece of history that you don’t want to miss out on, it can be very tiring for some. Of course, if the outfits are too long and complicated, it will only add to the unpleasantness of the sticky heat, so to refresh your mood and bring a bit of brightness to the pictures that you take on the walk (trust me, the views are some of the best you’ll get in Dubrovnik), a casual or sporty, yet cute and eye-catching look is proposed. With a denim skirt and a light blouse that will keep you light and, hopefully, cooler than when you wear a longer one-piece dress, the outfit will be extremely suitable for walking around the castle walls for quite some time in the day. Also, although flats are an option here, some light sneakers to match the sporty look might just be a better fit! Take a cap or a cute hat to cover your head from the sun – which will be shining down on you for quite a while – and if you have a mini fan or something, be sure to bring it. For the fan and also a camera, which you will definitely need (or you can use your phone), a small bag is always a necessity for convenience and style.
Outfit #5 – To the Old Town
By Old Town, I essentially mean touring the city, as there are many things to see – from walking around the actual main town, to walking a little farther up towards the cliffs, which have a few spots where you can sit and just enjoy the gorgeous summer breeze. Since you will be moving around a lot, a cool summer dress is proposed – one that is short and comfortable (but make sure it is not too short, as you will probably have to climb some steps). The shoes should be something simple and easy to walk in, such as sandals or something flat that will also let the air in as you walk. Since you won’t be doing any serious activities, some jewellery (such as a bracelet or necklace) or other accessories, such as a cute sun hat, will complete the fashionable look.
Outfit #6 – To the galleries and museums
Although this activity might not take up all of your day, there are a plethora of museums and galleries you can visit, ranging from very historical to modern and each one is extremely interesting. Since everything is indoors, you won’t be as exposed to the heat than other days or when doing other activities, but it will still be quite hot from when you travel to and from the places, so it’s best to wear something quite flowy, but not long-sleeved. Since you are going to some formal places, it is recommended not to wear something too informal (or exposed), but since you will be walking around, something comfortable is definitely needed – both on the body and on the feet. Maybe some close-toed sandals might do the trick, something that suits a long, flowing one-piece summer dress. Any jewellery you wear will also enhance the trendy look.
