Paradisus Fuerteventura: Is This The Canary Islands’ Most Family-Friendly Luxury Escape Yet?

Paradisus Fuerteventura: Is This The Canary Islands’ Most Family-Friendly Luxury Escape Yet?

Forget everything you thought you knew about all-inclusives—the bottomless buffets, the fluorescent wristbands, the kids’ clubs that feel suspiciously like soft-play jail. This summer, Paradisus Fuerteventura is rewriting the script, opening a luxury resort where everyone—toddlers, teens, tired parents, and cool grandparents—can find their rhythm on one of Europe’s most wildly beautiful coastlines.

Set to open this August on Sotavento Beach, the new resort is the third Canary Islands property from Paradisus by Meliá, but the first of its kind on Fuerteventura: a true luxury all-inclusive with serious family appeal. Think immersive wellness, local culture, stylish design—and yes, still plenty of pools and paddleboards.

Paradisus Fuerteventura

Canary Calm Meets Active Chaos (in the Best Way)

Sotavento isn’t just any stretch of sand. Located in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this remote, breezy beach is famed for its otherworldly landscape of golden dunes, dramatic volcanic backdrops, and an ever-changing tidal lagoon that appears each day like magic—a feature that doubles as both a windsurfer’s playground and a safe, shallow swimming zone for kids.

This natural marvel plays centre stage to 361 rooms and suites, many with sea views and all kitted out in soothing tones, local artwork, and design that actually feels considered rather than catalogued. Outside your room, you’ll find four pools (including a saltwater one), tropical gardens, and the prestigious René Egli by Meliá watersports centre, where the brave can sign up for windsurfing lessons, and the cautious can cheer them on from a sun lounger.

Paradisus Fuerteventura

Wellness for Grown-Ups (and the Rest of the Family Too)

If you’ve ever tried to meditate while someone’s toddler is having a meltdown over soggy nuggets, you’ll appreciate what Paradisus is doing with its “Wellness. Designed by Destination.” philosophy. This isn’t wellness as punishment—it’s pleasure-driven and accessible, even with a family in tow.

You can sneak off to a sound healing session under the stars, or a facial ritual in the spa, while the kids take part in a MINI Zumba class, KIDS Pilates, or yoga designed for small humans with questionable attention spans. Even the family activities—aloe vera workshops, Canarian cheese tastings, volcano excursions—have been curated with genuine local flavour. There are also sunset concerts, DJ nights, and themed parties for those who like their zen with a beat.

The resort’s Destination-Inclusive® approach means many of these activities are already baked into the stay—so no awkward add-on charges for every coconut scrub or kayak trip. For families trying to balance relaxation with entertainment (and keep screen time at bay), it’s a game-changer.

A Culinary Step Above

Paradisus Fuerteventura isn’t throwing out the all-day-dining model, but it’s giving it a major glow-up. There are seven restaurants, ranging from breezy poolside grills to international showpieces. The jewel in the crown is MAHOS, a tasting-menu-style experience led by chef Germán Ortega, focused on hyper-local produce and low-impact dining. It’s adults-only, and available exclusively to guests of The Reserve—the resort’s dedicated grown-up zone.

Paradisus Fuerteventura

The Reserve: Adults-Only, Not Anti-Family

Speaking of The Reserve, this isn’t a ‘no kids allowed’ declaration—it’s more like a sanctuary for parents who’ve done their time on the inflatable obstacle course. This elevated wing of the resort comes with private pools, a concierge, exclusive lounges, and priority access to dining and experiences. It’s perfect for couples travelling with extended family, or parents looking to strategically split their stay between poolside cannonballs and candlelit calm.

Sustainable, Local, and Not Just Lip Service

Crucially, Paradisus Fuerteventura isn’t just pretty packaging. The resort partners with local artisans, farmers, and musicians, uses circular economy practices, and avoids the worst of the “theme-park tourism” clichés that sometimes sneak into all-inclusives. It’s part of Meliá Hotels International’s broader investment in Fuerteventura, which will soon include the island’s first lifestyle hotel, ZEL Fuerteventura.

So, Is It Worth It?

For families looking to dodge the chaos of Europe’s crowded summer hotspots—and who want a luxury experience that doesn’t sideline the kids or smother the culture—Paradisus Fuerteventura is an ambitious, beautifully designed new player. It’s stylish without being snooty, active without being exhausting, and thoughtful in ways that will matter to modern parents juggling memories, me-time, and maybe one too many sandy snacks.

And let’s be honest: when your biggest daily decision is whether to try volcano hiking or aloe vera sculpting before your sea-view massage, you’re doing just fine.

Paradisus Fuerteventura opens August 2025. For families booking from mid-August onward, check for school holiday availability and pre-opening offers via Paradisus by Meliá.

Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare or a grand lobby to announce its presence. That is exactly how Finca Victoria arrived in Sa Riera—a restored estate where the pine-covered hills and Mediterranean set the tone before you even step inside.

Opened in 2025 after careful renovation of a historic property, it captures something rare on the Costa Brava: the feeling of having discovered a corner that hasn't yet lost its soul. Just thirty-eight rooms, all adults over fourteen, spread across what feels more like a private summer house than a resort determined to impress from the first moment. The central cloister anchors everything, with warm stone arches, ceramics, and Catalan tuff flooring that gives you a sense of place without leaning too hard on nostalgia.

The food alone tells you this was done with intention. AlKostat del Mar, led by chef Jordi Vilà, serves seasonal Catalan cooking rooted in local produce and fire. A rice dish can become the reason you're traveling somewhere new. Breakfast stretches from eight until eleven with made-to-order hot options alongside a carefully edited buffet—eggs Benedict with salmon, avocado toast, regional specialties like black butifarra with beans—that makes rushing feel unnecessary.

But what lingers is the room itself. In our Terrace Suite, nearly sixty square metres overlooked both sea and the rolling hills of Begur. The bathroom held both bathtub and rainfall shower. An outdoor shower faced sideways toward the horizon. These details don't shout; they settle into your memory slowly.

Spa appointments run through the Victoria Wellness Spa with water circuits, saunas, jacuzzis, and sensory treatments—all requiring advance booking, which somehow makes the peace even sweeter when you arrive. Morning yoga happens inside one of the suites, sunlight filling the space as you ground yourself into the day rather than race through it.

There is a complimentary shuttle to Begur village until late evening, and the beach is literally a short walk away. Private boat trips can be arranged for up to six people. Paddleboards, loungers, anything on the water the hotel can help coordinate through external partners. Yet even with
