Finca Victoria Begur Review 2026: A Retreat on the Costa Brava’s More Intimate Side
Without a doubt, Begur is one of the Costa Brava’s most charming towns. Its distinctive landscape, where sea and mountains meet in one postcard-worthy view, draws curious travellers throughout the year. Summer is naturally its busiest season, as it is for most places overlooking the Mediterranean. Just a short walk from Sa Riera beach, Finca Victoria is a boutique hotel that captures the spirit of the Costa Brava in the 1960s and 1970s, when creative figures such as Catalan poet Joan Vinyoli spent summer after summer in Begur, finding inspiration along this stretch of coastline.
Outside the peak summer months, Begur belongs largely to visitors from Barcelona, Girona and the surrounding region, who come for its quieter rhythm and long coastal walks. From June to September, the mood shifts as international travellers fill its narrow streets, restaurants and beaches. Finca Victoria sits slightly apart from that seasonal buzz. Set within a carefully restored historic estate, it is one of those coastal hotels designed not for ticking off every nearby plan, but for slowing down, staying put and rediscovering a more intimate side of the Costa Brava.
Arrival: Slowing Down in Sa Riera
There is no grand entrance at Finca Victoria, and that is very much the point. Set within a carefully restored historic estate, the hotel feels more like arriving at a thoughtfully designed Mediterranean summer house than stepping into a resort determined to impress from the first moment.
The atmosphere reveals itself gradually. A central cloister anchors the property, while warm stone arches, ceramics, wood and Catalan tuff flooring give the spaces a strong sense of place without leaning too heavily into nostalgia. The lobby, pool and Listening Room flow into one another naturally, creating a hotel that feels lived in rather than staged. It is the kind of place where guests move between coffee, a book, a swim and a late-afternoon drink without ever feeling rushed.
What stood out most on arrival was the intimacy of it all. Even with the sea only moments away, Finca Victoria does not compete with the landscape outside. Instead, it lets Sa Riera set the tone.

The Terrace Suite: A Room You Could Stay In for Weeks
We stayed in Finca Victoria’s Terrace Suite No. 2, a generous space of around 60 square metres with side views of the sea and Begur’s rolling, pine-covered hills. At first, the minimalist decor surprised me. There is very little visual noise, just soft tones, natural materials and a calm, pared-back approach to the room. After a few hours, however, it made complete sense. The simplicity is part of the hotel’s idea of relaxed luxury. Nothing feels excessive, yet everything feels considered.
The suite had a large king-size bed, a separate sitting area with a television, sofa and low table, and a spacious walk-in wardrobe that made unpacking feel less like checking into a hotel and more like settling into a temporary home. The bathroom was equally generous, with both a bathtub and rainfall shower, turning even getting ready for dinner into part of the experience.
What stayed with me most was the calm in every detail. Light moved softly through the room, the terrace extended the living space outdoors, and the suite had the kind of ease that makes you imagine staying for weeks without ever feeling like you are in a hotel.
The outdoor shower was perhaps the clearest expression of that feeling. Looking sideways towards the sea and across the hills of Begur, it added a distinctly private, residential quality to the stay. It was one of those small details that made Finca Victoria feel less like a place to sleep after a day at the beach and more like a house you would happily return to each summer.

Long Breakfasts and Dinners Worth Travelling For
Breakfast at Finca Victoria is served from 8am to 11am, and it quickly became one of those parts of the stay that made rushing feel unnecessary. The buffet is varied without becoming excessive. It is generous enough that you could return several mornings in a row and choose something different each time, yet carefully edited enough to avoid the anonymous, overfilled feeling of a large hotel breakfast. Everything feels selected rather than simply supplied.
Alongside the buffet, there is a short hot menu prepared to order. One morning I chose the eggs Benedict with salmon, and another day the avocado toast with scrambled eggs. Both were excellent, although the Benedict was the clear standout. Rich, balanced and exactly the sort of breakfast that encourages a second coffee and a slower start to the day. The menu also includes regional options such as black butifarra with beans and egg, which gives the experience a welcome sense of place rather than defaulting to an international hotel formula.
Dinner at AlKostat del Mar, led by chef Jordi Vilà, was equally memorable. The kitchen changes with the seasons and draws on local produce, fire and the generous, shareable spirit of Catalan cooking. We ate indoors because the evening was chilly, but the restaurant also opens onto the cloister, which must be an idyllic setting for a summer dinner beneath the candles. I still remember the rice dish in particular. Deeply flavoured, beautifully cooked and the kind of plate that makes dinner feel like part of the reason for the trip rather than simply a convenient option at the hotel.

Poolside Pauses, Spa Time and the Luxury of Having No Plan
The first afternoon, after a busy morning of travelling, I booked the Well Aging facial at Victoria Wellness Spa. It was exactly the kind of treatment that helps you arrive properly: unhurried, restorative and perfectly in tune with the atmosphere of the hotel. Afterwards, I moved into the spa circuit and, by pure luck, had the space to myself for a while. That unexpected privacy made the experience feel even more restorative.
The spa is intimate rather than expansive, but it offers everything you would want from a hotel of this size, including a water circuit, sauna, jacuzzi, sensory shower and treatment rooms. The jacuzzi was the highlight for me, especially after the facial. It is not a spa designed to fill an afternoon with endless facilities, but a considered space for switching off after a journey or before dinner. Victoria Wellness Spa requires advance booking.
The following morning, we joined a yoga class in one of the hotel’s main suites. It was a gentle, grounding way to begin the day, with Mediterranean light slowly filling the room. The practice felt less like an item on a wellness schedule and more like a natural continuation of the stay, quiet, intimate and entirely unforced.
Grey spring skies meant the outdoor pool remained more of a beautiful backdrop than a place for swimming during our visit. Still, I spent some time on one of the loungers, taking in the view and the stillness around the pool area. In summer, it is easy to imagine the day unfolding between a swim, a book and something cold from Cala Bar. The hotel can also arrange paddleboarding and beach loungers with parasols through external providers, while private boat trips are available for small groups. Even without trying them, the appeal was clear. Finca Victoria is made for leaving room in the day for absolutely nothing.
The Verdict: A Place to Live In
Finca Victoria is not the place to choose for a Costa Brava itinerary packed with beach clubs, back-to-back reservations and days planned down to the hour. It works best for couples, solo travellers, close friends and food lovers who want to stay near the sea while keeping the pace gentle. The suite, the long breakfasts, dinner at AlKostat del Mar, the quiet of the cloister and the short walk down to Sa Riera all create the feeling of being somewhere personal rather than simply well serviced.
Of course, coming to the Costa Brava and skipping the Camí de Ronda or its beautiful coves would be a missed opportunity. But Finca Victoria has a particular pull. It makes you want to come back early, leave your phone in the room and stay put for a while. It is easy to imagine spending two days devouring a thousand-page novel, moving only between the terrace, the pool, lunch and the sea, with no concern beyond enjoying the simple pleasure of being there. With no guests under 14, the atmosphere naturally feels more grown-up and peaceful. Finca Victoria is a reminder that the Costa Brava still has corners where luxury is not about doing more, but about finally having the time to enjoy life properly.
