Lux List: What We Packed For A Week of Sun In The Whitsundays

As winter sets in on Australia’s lower east coast, the hankering for sweater-free days and warm ocean swims can be hard to handle. With that in mind, when we were offered to spend a week in The Whitsundays in the middle of June, the answer was an immediate yes. For our seven days of winter sun in The Whitsundays, we’ve highlighted seven travel essentials in this week’s LUX LIST that elevated our trip –   with extra magic long after you’ve left.

Travel essentialsA dewy, gentle sunscreen from AB Lab

The first thing you’ll notice about AB LAB’s Dewy-C SPF50+ Facial Sun Milk is the scent: it’s holidays and sun-soaked childhood memories, the first days of summer. The paraben-free formula melts seamlessly into the skin for instant UVA & UVB protection, a gentle glow and that perfect summer perfume. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free, made in Australia and entirely free from sulphates and Oxybenzone, meaning you can swim in the reef without your sunscreen contributing the coral degradation.

There’s something infinitely more romantic about holiday photos captured on film, and 35mm Co’s Reloader is the ultimate beginner film camera: affordable, easy to use, and a beautiful addition to your hand luggage/ beach bag/ breakfast table. The built-in flash and point-and-shoot functionality mean that with little to no knowledge of photography, you can capture holiday moments in a sweetly nostalgic format forever. The three playful colourways and vegan leather wrist strap make this a delightfully pretty functional accessory.

A tiny travel kit from al.ive body

The amenities at hotels across The Whitsundays are undeniably excellent – Aesop at Qualia and O&M at Coral Sea Resort being notable examples – but when you’re out and about (which in The Whitsundays, translates to mean on a boat) having travel-size products to hand is important. Al.ive body’s travel kit contains four refillable bottles of responsibly made hair and body products, all of which are Australian-made and free from sulphates, parabens and silicones. Sustainability is crucial for this female-founded brand – the recyclable bottles in each travel kit can be easily refilled with Al.ive body’s refill pouches, and the durable bag has been made to last trip after trip.

Caffeinated health snacks from I Am Grounded

In a crowded market, it takes something special for a health food brand to stand out from the crowd. One product range that has managed that almighty feat comes from I Am Grounded: functional snack bars packed with a caffeine kick from upcycled coffee fruit that would otherwise be discarded. The only naturally caffeinated health snack on the Australian market, these thoughtfully made wholefood bars are a unicorn travel snack: plant-based, naturally energising, and reducing food/ coffee waste one bar at a time.

THE LUX LIST: 6 most romantic retreats in 2019

January 10, 2019

In this week’s LUX LIST we’ve rounded up the six most romantic retreats in 2019. From cosy fireside suppers to romantic walks in the crisp January air, winter in the northern hemisphere is very much a season for lovers. However, as the long, dark nights and plummeting temperatures can also lead to more than a …

Fiji in 2026 has matured beyond overwater bungalow Fiji in 2026 has matured beyond overwater bungalows and cocktail menus. Thirty-three hundred islands now define themselves through intentional stillness, conservation, and privacy that respects your intelligence. From COMO Laucala's temporary pause to Six Senses' new private residences, the landscape rewards those who understand true luxury lives in time and space. Whether you seek coral restoration experiences, adults-only sanctuaries, or multi-generational escapes, this guide maps the journey. Some legends rest briefly; others evolve permanently. Your turn to decide which path fits. #fiji #fijiislands🌴 #fijitravel
Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare or a grand lobby to announce its presence. That is exactly how Finca Victoria arrived in Sa Riera—a restored estate where the pine-covered hills and Mediterranean set the tone before you even step inside.

Opened in 2025 after careful renovation of a historic property, it captures something rare on the Costa Brava: the feeling of having discovered a corner that hasn't yet lost its soul. Just thirty-eight rooms, all adults over fourteen, spread across what feels more like a private summer house than a resort determined to impress from the first moment. The central cloister anchors everything, with warm stone arches, ceramics, and Catalan tuff flooring that gives you a sense of place without leaning too hard on nostalgia.

The food alone tells you this was done with intention. AlKostat del Mar, led by chef Jordi Vilà, serves seasonal Catalan cooking rooted in local produce and fire. A rice dish can become the reason you're traveling somewhere new. Breakfast stretches from eight until eleven with made-to-order hot options alongside a carefully edited buffet—eggs Benedict with salmon, avocado toast, regional specialties like black butifarra with beans—that makes rushing feel unnecessary.

But what lingers is the room itself. In our Terrace Suite, nearly sixty square metres overlooked both sea and the rolling hills of Begur. The bathroom held both bathtub and rainfall shower. An outdoor shower faced sideways toward the horizon. These details don't shout; they settle into your memory slowly.

Spa appointments run through the Victoria Wellness Spa with water circuits, saunas, jacuzzis, and sensory treatments—all requiring advance booking, which somehow makes the peace even sweeter when you arrive. Morning yoga happens inside one of the suites, sunlight filling the space as you ground yourself into the day rather than race through it.

There is a complimentary shuttle to Begur village until late evening, and the beach is literally a short walk away. Private boat trips can be arranged for up to six people. Paddleboards, loungers, anything on the water the hotel can help coordinate through external partners. Yet even with
Asia is having a moment, and not just any moment—a Asia is having a moment, and not just any moment—a renaissance.

Over 251,000 new hotel rooms are set to debut across the region this year, representing more than mere expansion. This is a transformation driven by authentic storytelling, sustainable thinking, and design that honors where you are while showing you something entirely new.

In Thailand alone, we're seeing properties like Centara Reserve Krabi carved into a private cove reachable only by boat, or Navera Phuket channeling the golden age of yachting along Surin Beach. Bangkok welcomes YOTEL into South Sukhumvit, marrying tech-forward living with cloud-high views. Meanwhile, Vietnam has graduated from stopover status—THE THEODORE anchors itself in Hanoi's Old Quarter overlooking Hoan Kiem Lake, proving heritage and contemporary luxury can share space beautifully.

Then there's Singapore, finally receiving its first NoMad in late 2026, complete with four distinct dining concepts that promise to rival the original Manhattan flagship. And Kuala Lumpur gets a Conrad landmark inspired by Malaysia's tin-mining past, with a rooftop pool framing skyline views.

The pattern here is clear: these aren't generic boxes dropped into exotic locations. They're intentional. Some open with soft launches as early as August 2026, but most arrive Q3 through year-end. Booking windows are already ticking open if you're among those who like being first.
