In this week’s LUX LIST we’ve rounded up the six most romantic retreats in 2019.

From cosy fireside suppers to romantic walks in the crisp January air, winter in the northern hemisphere is very much a season for lovers. However, as the long, dark nights and plummeting temperatures can also lead to more than a little cabin fever, we’re on hand with the definitive where-to guide for a couple’s fling. Traversing Europe and Asia, follow your heart to seven of the most spectacular romantic hideaways.

1. Hotel Cort

Defined by stunning bays, and lush bougainvillaea-strewn landscapes, Mallorca has long been a favoured European jaunt and the island’s capital with its world-class galleries, restaurants, and shopping is ideally placed for a romantic flit. Amid the buzz of Palma’s sun-bleached streets, Hotel Cort emerges as a serene retreat with spacious suites and an intimate terrace.

2.Boutique Hotel Sant Jaume

This boutique hotel is a design-lover´s dream set in an 18th-century mansion.

The Sant Jaume Boutique Hotel stands in the heart of the old quarter of Palma on one of the city’s oldest streets nestled between two important historic buildings: the Church of Sant Jaume and Santa Magdalena Convent. Both are examples of fifteenth-century Gothic architecture still preserved on the island.

The hotel occupies a house dating from the eighteenth century. On the ground floor, you will find the reception, hallway, lobby, restaurant, cocktail lounge and spa. The hotel rooms are on the third storeys above it. The fourth floor provides a sundeck with a plunge pool, designer loungers, showers and stunning views of the old quarter and the Cathedral. From here  guests can marvel at life in Palma from up high.

3.Palazzina Grassi

Venice is the archetypal city for lovers and at its epicentre is the spectacular Palazzina Grassi. Overlooking the Grand Canal, the hotel’s 16th-century façade houses a discrete and luxurious residence designed by Philippe Starck. Entering Palazzina Grassi feels like being welcomed into someone’s spectacular home: warm and cosy, elegant and refined. And you will feel at home here too! A magical space embodying a deep love for Venice history, culture and contemporary life, Palazzina Grassi allows its guests to experience the “City of the Doges” like nowhere else. It is a unique lifestyle concept that creates a totally “ExtraOrdinary” place, fascinating its guests wherever they come from. Some suites offer a spectacular view over the Grand Canal, while the Junior Suites, Deluxe and Superior rooms look out over the rose rooftops of Venice.

5. Memmo Alfama

Located in the heart of the most typical district of Lisbon – Alfama – steps away from the Cathedral and the São Jorge Castle, memmo Alfama is already considered as one of the best hotels in Lisbon and is the first boutique hotel in the city’s historic area, with it’s narrow streets, traditional shops and the famous Fado restaurants. The hotel was considered by wallpaper® magazine as one of the 48 new world’s best urban hotels in 2014.memmo Alfama redefines the standards of hospitality in Lisbon: the authentic and contemporary style, perfectly integrated in the surroundings, the 42 rooms overlooking the river Tagus and Alfama, the special feeling of being at a Portuguese home and the attentive staff that will make your visit to Lisbon unforgettable.

6. The Naka Phuket

The NAKA Phuket raises the bar of Phuket’s tourist industry with accommodation, facilities and service which are certain to exceed everyone’s expectations. This 95 pool villa resort is perfectly located in Kamala Bay, and is possibly the only resort on the island to offer two natural settings where an exclusive beach meets with an unspoiled hillside. The resort is only accessible via an isolated mountain road making it the perfect location for those seeking to experience the ultimate feeling of seclusion, but as the resort is only 10 km. away from Phuket’s bustling nightlife area of Patong, it is also the ideal choice for travellers who seek a true city experience.

Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare Sometimes luxury shows up quietly, without fanfare or a grand lobby to announce its presence. That is exactly how Finca Victoria arrived in Sa Riera—a restored estate where the pine-covered hills and Mediterranean set the tone before you even step inside.

Opened in 2025 after careful renovation of a historic property, it captures something rare on the Costa Brava: the feeling of having discovered a corner that hasn't yet lost its soul. Just thirty-eight rooms, all adults over fourteen, spread across what feels more like a private summer house than a resort determined to impress from the first moment. The central cloister anchors everything, with warm stone arches, ceramics, and Catalan tuff flooring that gives you a sense of place without leaning too hard on nostalgia.

The food alone tells you this was done with intention. AlKostat del Mar, led by chef Jordi Vilà, serves seasonal Catalan cooking rooted in local produce and fire. A rice dish can become the reason you're traveling somewhere new. Breakfast stretches from eight until eleven with made-to-order hot options alongside a carefully edited buffet—eggs Benedict with salmon, avocado toast, regional specialties like black butifarra with beans—that makes rushing feel unnecessary.

But what lingers is the room itself. In our Terrace Suite, nearly sixty square metres overlooked both sea and the rolling hills of Begur. The bathroom held both bathtub and rainfall shower. An outdoor shower faced sideways toward the horizon. These details don't shout; they settle into your memory slowly.

Spa appointments run through the Victoria Wellness Spa with water circuits, saunas, jacuzzis, and sensory treatments—all requiring advance booking, which somehow makes the peace even sweeter when you arrive. Morning yoga happens inside one of the suites, sunlight filling the space as you ground yourself into the day rather than race through it.

There is a complimentary shuttle to Begur village until late evening, and the beach is literally a short walk away. Private boat trips can be arranged for up to six people. Paddleboards, loungers, anything on the water the hotel can help coordinate through external partners. Yet even with
