Ilaria Pellegrin, Commercial Director at Hilton Lake Como

This week we caught up with Ilaria Pellegrin, the Commercial Director at Hilton Lake Como to find out what she never travels without, her packing tips, and what her most memorable trip has been so far…

Ilaria Pellegrin is the Commercial Director at Hilton Lake Como in Italy. From an early age, Ilaria regularly went on holidays together with her family which created her passion for travel. Every year Ilaria was enthusiastic to be spending the summer break away together with her family in a bungalow or apartment. She felt it evoked that special kind of feeling of being at home, whilst being away from home. Until she joined Hilton, Ilaria never thought of the many different ways hotels can make people feel at home wherever they are.

After graduating with a degree in Marketing and Business Management, Ilaria was very keen to explore new cultures and practice languages, and when she was 22 years old she started her career as Visual Merchandiser working throughout Europe for a high-end fashion textile company. One year later, Ilaria applied for a role in the USA as Marketing Trainee for an international wine company targeting the luxury market. In that role, she ended up moving to the USA in order to support a Merchandising Project aiming to increase awareness of the brand in New York.

Thanks to a scholarship as part of a Master’s in “Hospitality and Hotel Management”, Ilaria eventually started her journey in hospitality at Millennium Hotel Mayfair in London, and after a year Ilaria progressed to Hilton Molino Stucky Venice working in the events department. Today, Ilaria works as the Commerical Director at Hilton Lake Como.

Whilst working for Hilton, Ilaria has enjoyed some great career highlights. For example, she was successfully selected to attend the first Continental Europe Women@Hilton Leadership Symposium hosted in Amsterdam in 2017 which was aimed at growing female leaders. In 2021, she participated in the second version of “The Women in Leadership” project, a six months program, designed to help women achieve their future career aspirations of becoming General Managers.

Describing her future, Ilaria says; “I am sure that women in hospitality are changing the current narrative. Too often, we allow ourselves to stop at the impossible when, if you are really looking at it, almost everything is possible. Humility, passion, and being in the right place at the right time: are the best ingredients for an authentic recipe”

In this week’s Suitcase Series we take a sneak peek into Ilaria Pellegrin’s travel psyche…

What’s been your most memorable trip and why?

Well, when I decided to go on a short trip by myself to North Africa I must admit that I thought many times about how, as a woman, I might have been perceived in a continent where the gender parity gap has not been reached yet in all countries. I was indeed positively surprised in Cape Verde, a beautiful archipelago of tropics and beaches, and I had the opportunity to immerse myself in real local life. It was there that I felt how grateful I am to be born with a passport inclusive of parity rights, and at the same time I felt the power and tenacity that characterizes us, women! This experience told me to be even more open-minded and without prejudices and since then I have applied this new way of thinking in every aspect of my life journey.

Hilton Lake Como
Hilton Lake Como is Ilaria Pellegrin’s favourite hotel and also where she’s lucky to be working

What’s your favourite ever hotel?

Locally, every day I have the honour to enjoy the vibrant vibes of one of my favourite lifestyle hotels ever – the Hilton Lake Como, a new-generation hotel facing the lake, that embraces all cultural aspects of the country where I was born. From the modern and stylish design and architecture to the fascinating flavour of its contemporary cuisine made with local products. Dreaming internationally, Zemi Beach House, LXR Hotels & Resorts in Anguilla, is a noble “marriage” of luxury with nature.

Where or what is your escape?

Getting lost in Liguria, where every journey becomes poetry, in a world of rock jutting out towards the crystal sea.

If you could go anywhere tomorrow it would be…

On the iconic cruise and ferry route ‘Hurtigruten’ on the Norwegian fjords enjoy one of the most spectacular journeys on earth, waiting for the gorgeous northern light! I feel inspired by natural wonders!

What’s your idea of a luxury wellness holiday?

A holistic wellbeing experience by the sea, in a place where I can disconnect also from the digital world. I love “Rhythms for Nature” retreats such as morning paddle boarding on the sea, afternoon breath work on a floating dock and couples massage at a riverside gazebo watching the sunset. A sense of freedom and extravagance while enjoying the smallest possible footprint in the environment, wellness areas are embedded in the natural habitat without causing the destruction of nature.

My top bucket-list destination is…

The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, one of the World’s most remarkable natural gifts, part of an amazing continent with fun and nature-loving citizens.

If you could sit next to anyone – dead or alive – on a long-haul flight, who would it be?

My grandfathers, a free plus for all passengers ready to listen to real anecdotes of life.

What is your jet-lag recovery tip?

Make sure to drink a cup of Espresso coffee and never stop.

What is your suitcase stalwart?

I am in love with the entire Bric series, from the carry-on trolley “Amalfi collection”, cream colour for hot destinations, to the recycled nylon under-seat trolley in grey colour for the rest of my travels.

What is your number one packing tip?

Always leave some space for what you will bring home with you.

I never travel without…

A pair of high-heeled shoes and my vintage “Persol” sunglasses.

In my beauty/toiletry bag I always bring…

My favourite blush, black mascara, and clear nail polish.

Hilton Lake Como is a luxury hotel with spectacular scenery, traditional charm, and jaw-dropping 360-degree views of the lake from its rooftop pool. Ideally located in an area full of unique experiences on and off the lake, has made Lake Como an international must-visit destination for families, business travellers and couples. Insider tip, if the spacious 1689 sq ft Presidential Suite with a lake view and the rooftop terrace is booked then try the Loft Suite where you can sleep under the twinkling Lake Como stars.

Nightly rates begin at 180 Euros per night based on double occupancy with breakfast included. For more information and bookings visit https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/mxpcohi-hilton-lake-como/

Ten years after Graham Greene walked these halls, and they haven't missed a beat. The Opera House steps, the wartime tunnels underfoot, the Angelina salon where cocktails taste like history—they're all part of a legacy that doesn't need to shout to be heard. Three hours from Hanoi. Seven hectares on the edge Three hours from Hanoi. Seven hectares on the edge of Ha Long Bay. Two buildings designed like traditional fishing vessels. One rooftop dinner that pairs Kagoshima Wagyu with Nuits-Saint-Georges. The math checks out. What makes this property exceptional isn't the awards or the price points—it's the willingness to let simple things (poolside pizza, afternoon tea with a limestone backdrop, quiet mornings at the Club Lounge) carry as much weight as the five-course tasting menus. Sometimes luxury is knowing when not to try too hard. Read @janoahvankekem ´s full review of @intercontinental_halongbay for @luxnomade on the website.
