Jade Gillett Co-Founder of Rainbow Studios
This week we caught up with Jade Gillett, the woman behind Rainbow Studios to find out what she never travels without, her packing tips, and what her most memorable trip has been so far…
Jade Gillett is a co-founder, alongside Brent Gold of Rainbow Studios – a creative concept store located in the heart of Darlinghurst, offering a curated collection of unique, one-of-a-kind items from a diverse array of established and emerging artists, designers, and artisans.
The visionary duo, Brent Gold and Jade Gillett, have created an interchangeable space that is visually striking, with a bold, energetic colour palette, and a mix of modern and retro mod design. The store also features a goldsmiths workshop, discreetly located beneath the shop floor, where custom jewellery is crafted, adding an additional layer of intrigue to the visitor’s experience. The store also offers a custom-based service in collaboration with established brother-sister jewellery brands, HENSON and Henson and Gold, where customers can create one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery to wear every day and forever.
In this week’s Suitcase Series we take a sneak peek into Jade’s travel psyche…
What’s been your most memorable trip and why?
I lived in Ibiza back in 2011 and it was the trip that greatly influenced the person I am today. My experience was enriched by the diverse and wonderful people I met from all corners of the world. Over the course of eight months, I discovered my passion for music, relished Spanish cuisine and culture, and found a newfound sense of independence and freedom as a young woman. It was a time I will never forget.
What’s your favourite ever hotel?
Pikes in Ibiza (https://pikesibiza.com/) is undoubtedly one of my favourite hotels. Not only is it an Ibizan institution, but it also boasts a rich history, where Freddy Mercury used to stay back in the 80s. I have fond memories of spending most of my Wednesday nights here in 2011 and meeting many famous faces. The hotel’s interiors are nothing short of spectacular, taking you back to an era that I can’t help but wish I was a part of.
Where or what is your escape?
Nature.
If you could go anywhere tomorrow it would be…
London, back home to see my family and friends but also a quick trip to Europe to explore the streets of Paris and Berlin.
What’s your idea of a luxury wellness holiday?
A tropical island, eating the freshest of fruits and vegetables homegrown. Crystal blues, ocean, wildlife. A retreat-style resort would be amazing so you can benefit from guided classes and workshops to completely relax and unwind.
My top bucket-list destination is…
I have many but the next destination I would love to explore is Columbia and Brazil.
If you could sit next to anyone – dead or alive – on a long-haul flight, who would it be?
I think I would much rather sleep and enjoy the peace and quiet!
What is your jet-lag recovery tip?
I will try and fight the tiredness as much as I can so I can catch up.
What is your suitcase stalwart?
My new July suitcases are very reliable and of great quality I highly recommend.
What is your number one packing tip?
Always under-pack, you never need what you bring. It’s always the basics that you live in and everything else never matters – embrace the freedom of simplicity.
I never travel without…
My collection of jewellery by Henson and Gold especially this custom piece. In addition to my lavender oil and spray, which I find particularly helpful during long-haul flights.
In my beauty/toiletry bag I always bring…
To be honest I rarely carry a bag or use beauty products! I’m very basic in this area!
