Da Maria by Maurice Terzinis is Seminyak’s Italian hotspot serving pizzas in a 60s Italian courtyard.
Walking into Da Maria in Seminyak will transport you to the Amalfi Coast and make you think of Aperol Spritzers, crusty pizzas, Italian riviera, and sun. And what’s not to love about the late-night pizzas + disco?
Da Maria has been the talk of the island since the Italian restaurant opened its doors. Well known or its interior design which feels like a 60s Italian courtyard decorated using colourful splashed of colour Da Maria is one of the top restaurants around Seminyak (with stiff competition from Sarong, Mama San and Flat Stanley) The man behind the restaurant is Maurice Terzini who’s also behind some of Australia’s most iconic dining venues, has managed to create something special. By combining great authentic food, excellent drinks, interesting interior, and awesome music, Da Maria ticks all the boxes for a fun night out.
The food is classic Italian with a twist. For crudo the scallops with fennel and lemon confit are fantastic (and you get quite a few of them). The shaved pickled cabbage with parmesan and extra olive oil is a fresh side to the pizzas which are the proper Italian wood oven ones and the topics authentic to the Italian heritage such as the Salsiccia which is served with pork and fennel sausage. For secondi, the crispy-skinned fish of the day served with asparagus and risoni is heavenly. The rice is smooth and flavorsome and the fish is perfectly cooked.
What I like about Da Maria is the simplicity, yet it’s spectacular. There is only one glass type for all drinks, and again, why complicate things? The courtyard setup with the scattered round tables around the centerpiece fountain makes you feel like you are in Europe. The DJ is great and it’s a place where you feel the good energy pumping. Order your favourite Italian dishes, enjoy it with a nice glass of Italian red (they even have Montepulciano d’Abruzzo) before finishing with a Negroni. It’s all Bellissima!
