Suitcase Series: Emma Corrie, Founder of The Kind Sunscreen
This week we caught up with Emma Corrie, the woman behind the sunscreen brand The Kind Sunscreen to find out what she never travels without, her packing tips, and which destination(s) is on her travel bucket list.
Emma Corrie has been in the health and wellness space for many years. She used to be a Pilates instructor and had her own studio which also included cycle and yoga. After having her son she became interested in learning more about how she could help both him and herself to live a more holistic, simple, and clean way of life. Not having been a sunscreen user herself but spending a lot of time outdoors, Emma was noticing her skin had started to age and, when looking for sunscreens for her son, she realised they all contained a lot of ingredients.
Inspired by her own experience with her young boy’s sensitive skin and living in sunny Queensland, Australia, she set out to create a physical sunscreen that was kind to all.
In this week’s Suitcase Series, equipped with a tube of The Kind Sunscreen ($29) we take a sneak peek into Emma’s travel psyche…
What’s been your most memorable trip, and why?
I recently returned from a week in Ubud with my son and our best friends. After two years of being unable to travel, it was so wonderful to be amongst a different culture again, the sites, the smells, the tastes. I was so excited and happy to share that with my son.
What’s your favourite ever hotel?
Paradise Road Tintagel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Absolutely stunning.
Where or what is your escape?
Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island. Still my favourite place in the world. Or an infrared sauna so no one can contact me, complete alone time.
If you could go anywhere tomorrow, it would be…
Prince Edward Island to see my cousin and her family and what her life is like on the island. She moved from Toronto when COVID hit, so that will be our next destination and, hopefully at least a month-long stay.
What’s your idea of a luxury wellness holiday?
A yoga/wellness retreat anywhere subtropical.
My top bucket-list destination is…
Oman and Lebanon – impossible to pick one!
If you could sit next to anyone – dead or alive – on a long-haul flight, who would it be?
My grandmother. She passed away while I was in Morocco, and so I would love to have one last long chat about the world and all that is going on. She always had the best “no fuss” opinions and advice.
What is your jet-lag recovery tip?
Lots of water, stretching, and a swim.
What is your suitcase stalwart?
Because I’m always heading to warm climates – sunscreen, of course!
What is your number one packing tip?
Warm climates mean you can pack less.
I never travel without…
Now that I have my son, I hope to always take him so he can see the world.
In my beauty/toiletry bag I always bring…
The Kind Sunscreen, Rosehip oil, and Carbine Ridge Balm
