This stunning multi award-winning medical spa is focusing on prevention rather than cure.

It’s not every day you get to experience a leading wellness spa voted “one of the best medical spas in the world” by Conde Nast Traveller and “Most Life-Changing Spa” in the world by Tatler Awards.

Located right by the sea, the long-established Vilalara Thalassa Resort, in the Algarve – Portugal joined forces with Longevity Wellness Worldwide to create VILALARA LONGEVITY THALASSA & MEDICAL SPA four years ago and the resul – an award-winning Health & Wellness Retreat offering serious detox program for a complete body overhaul.

The Longevity program

This cutting-edge medical spa is focusing on prevention rather than cure with a strong focus on deep detoxification and revitalisation by using the healing qualities of Thalassaotherapy and other medical and non-medical detox and regeneration therapies. The philosophy is simple, by removing the toxins, heavy metals and other harmful substances from our body which has been built up over time we can heal and regenerate thereby reducing the chances of developing chronic diseases.

Vilalara Longevity features a broad selection of Health & Wellness programmes. My first day at the Longevity program started in the morning with a general medical consultation and clinical examination including blood tests, medical exam and a special test which detects heavy metals in the body.

Straight after I have my biophysical evaluation. It is a quick non-invasive approach which determines the body composition, to measure body fat, muscle, body mass index (BMI), basal metabolic rate (BMR), the distribution of fat/muscle mass in the body as well as your metabolic versus your chronological age well as your measurements.

The afternoon is spent in a bubble bath followed by a body scrub and a medical pressotheraphy which is a detoxifying treatment using lymphatic drainage to help promote the body’s natural toxin-eliminating functions.

At the end of the day, I meet with the Doctor who is specialising in anti-age who is incredibly approachable, friendly and professional. I am being educated on heavy metals and the impact it has on our human body. I am also introduced to supplements including which I should take based on my test results, how to take them when to take them and the benefits of using them as an addition to our daily diet.

Throughout the day I am allowed five meals which include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Part of the meal plan is also two additional fresh juices.

The second day I have a nutrition and wellbeing consultation with the nutritionist who is, based on my results from the previous day, is presenting a meal plan which has been customised to my body’s needs.

I’m having another pressotheraphy session as well as a yoga class and there is also time to enjoy the steam room and sauna.

My second day is ending with an osteopath session where my lower back and shoulders are given attention which helps to release tension and pain.

All treatments are being carried out in a relaxing and beautiful environment. There are several lounge beds to rest on and alkaline water and herbal tea to enjoy between treatments.

The two-day program is individually developed based on my test results to maximise the impact in detoxification and rebalancing and I start to feel the benefits immediately.

I am leaving Vilalara Longevity Thalassa & Medical Spa after the short but intense detox programme feeling refreshed, clear and with a sense of regaining control over my body and overall wellbeing. I can imagine the impact of a full 7-day detox and regeneration programme, which is the recommended duration for maximum results.

Additional treatments available include manual lymphatic drainage, colon hydrotherapy, microphysiotherapy, intravenous nutrient rebalancing therapy (IV), ozonetherapy (autohemotherapy) which can all be combined with juice fasting, detox supplements,
stress management therapies and fitness classes.

The Resort

Located right by the sea surrounded by breathtaking nature, the luxury Vilalara Thalassa Resort is set within 11 hectares of lush gardens and with a direct access to the beach.

The resort is both stylish and comfortable with 104 Junior Suites, 7 Suites and 16 Apartments in total, overlooking the gardens, pools or sea.

There are two restaurants and two bars offering a stunning ocean view and a tasty and healthy breakfast, dinner and lunch options. A special healthy menu has been designed for guests taking part in the Longevity program and can be enjoyed in all restaurants.

For those who like to keep active, there are four tennis courts, four seawater outdoor swimming pools and one freshwater swimming pool. All rooms have Wi-Fi.

The resort welcomes families with young children and there is both a Kids Club and babysitting services available. This is a fantastic service for mothers and fathers who would like to join the Longevity program whilst bringing their children on a holiday. However, the spa area is adults-only.

The resort also welcomes both medical spa guests as well as resort guests which makes this the perfect destination for any couples or families where perhaps only one family member wishes to sign up for the Longevity programme.

Junior Suite Garden View

Situated next to the medical spa the Junior Suite is an elegant room (55m2,) overlooking the beautiful garden. The room has a bright and modern decor with a large king-size bed or two twin beds, a sitting area and a balcony with outdoor furniture. The bathroom is spacious with a separate W/C and a large bathtub with a waterfall shower. The room is stocked daily with large water bottles and herbal teas.

The Highlights

  • Enjoying a healthy breakfast at the B&G restaurant located on the cliff top with stunning views overlooking the Atlantic Ocean
  • The friendly, professional and incredibly knowledgeable staff
  • The test results together with detox recipes and customised meal plans are being emailed to you a week after the programme has been completed in order for you to continue your healthy journey.
  • The fact that Vilalara Thalassa Resort is not an“Adults Only” Resort gives families a great opportunity to enjoy a family holiday whilst one or both parents can simultaneously enrol in one of the health programmes at the medical spa.

Three hours from Hanoi. Seven hectares on the edge Three hours from Hanoi. Seven hectares on the edge of Ha Long Bay. Two buildings designed like traditional fishing vessels. One rooftop dinner that pairs Kagoshima Wagyu with Nuits-Saint-Georges. The math checks out. What makes this property exceptional isn't the awards or the price points—it's the willingness to let simple things (poolside pizza, afternoon tea with a limestone backdrop, quiet mornings at the Club Lounge) carry as much weight as the five-course tasting menus. Sometimes luxury is knowing when not to try too hard. Read @janoahvankekem ´s full review of @intercontinental_halongbay for @luxnomade on the website.
