Château St Pierre de Serjac -where laid-back chic meets glamorous sophistication with so many wow factors we lost count.
Château St Pierre de Serjac opened its doors in the spring of 2016 after a huge €25m renovation – a result of a collaboration between winemaker Laurent Bonfils and hoteliers Karl and Anita O’Hanlon (the successful duo is also behind the popular Château Les Carrasses).
Fast-forward a couple of years and the stylish château and beautiful wine estate have quickly become popular among the most discerning of travellers. It’s not hard to see why this stunning property is being referred to as France’s answer to Soho Farmhouse – fresh countryside air, complete tranquillity, and hotel rooms to die for, what’s not to love? Thanks to interior designer and antique dealer Michelle Crouzet’s magic touch Château St Pierre de Serjac is where glamorous art deco meets regal mid-century style.
The entire château oozes chic French sophistication mixed with classic elements, with rooms decorated in soft greys, aubergine, and navy blue mixed with crisp white, black, and terracotta, finished with unique antiques, vintage chandeliers, and velvet-clad furniture. Not only has the beautiful château and magnificent vineyard estate been successfully converted into a luxury intimate 8-bedroom hotel with a bar, restaurant, and spa. Château St Pierre de Serjac is also a working winery with 36 impressively stylish and luxurious fully equipped self-catering properties. All properties are original agricultural outbuildings that have been tastefully renovated all with their own garden and unique configuration and style. For guests looking for independence and privacy, 17 of the properties have a private swimming pool.
Château St Pierre de Serjac Location & how to get here
Located in Languedoc, one of the oldest and largest wine-growing areas of the world Château St Pierre de Serjac offers a slice of French countryside paradise on its 200-acre site surrounded by uninterrupted views of rolling vines, olive groves, and palm trees. Tucked away from the glitz and glamour of the French Riviera, the boutique hotel is located between the archetypal French villages of Magalas and Pouzolles and the nearest airports are Beziers (30-minute drive) and Montpellier(1-hour drive). Ryanair flies from various UK airports to Béziers for around £50 return. British Airways, Easyjet and Ryanair also fly to Montpellier. TGV trains run from London and Barcelona to Beziers.
Château St Pierre de Serjac’s Rooms
The eight spacious and stylish double rooms all located in the château offers stunning views across the seriously impressive infinity pool. The king-size beds are incredibly comfortable and the velvet-covered armchairs add to the luxurious feel. The bathroom boasts a large rain shower, soft oversize bathrobes that completely swaddle you, slippers, and amenities from the French brand Cinc Monde. Six rooms have a beautiful (Instagram-worthy)polished classic steel Beateu tub placed in the room adding a romantic feel.
The Bar & Restaurant
The fine-dining restaurant is located on the ground floor serving up Mediterranian dishes with a modern French twist. The interior decor is très chic with navy blue walls, leather chairs, and chandeliers yet cosy with a relaxed bistro feel. Enjoy a three-course set menu or go for something from the à la carte menu. Everything on the menu is based on local seasonal ingredients and the fruits, vegetables, and herbs are all coming straight from the garden. The Charolais beef is an excellent choice and so are the locally sourced scallops and the naughty chocolate fondue (we dare you not to finish it). The service is excellent and the wine list is impressive (including the dessert wines) with wines from Bonfils’ vineyards. Popular among hotel guests as well as local residents and walk-ins the restaurant’s atmosphere is intimate even when busy.
Kick off the evening in the original drawing room with a wine from the estate or a yummy cocktail or enjoy a cosy nightcap in front of the fireplace after dinner.
Le Spa
The spa located next to the outdoor swimming pool is open 7-days a week and offers guests a true sanctuary all year around. For an additional 25€ hotel guests can enjoy total pampering by making use of the 12-meter heated indoor pool, hammam, sauna, and hot tub. To complete the spa experience there are four treatment rooms available for various organic treatments such as massages, scrubs, body wraps, and facials all by the cult French spa brand Cinq Mondes. The skin renewal facial (50 min/90€) is a deep cleaning treatment inspired by Balinese beauty rituals using ingredients from tropical flowers leaving your skin fresh, glowing, and incredibly smooth. Bathrobes and slippers are being provided as well as herbal tea, coffee, and water. The comfortable indoor sunbeds are perfect to stretch out on with a cheeky rose (this is, after all, a guilt-free spa) and indulge in total relaxation whilst soaking in the panoramic garden view through the large windows.
Facilities
In addition to Le Spa, the real jewel in the crown is perhaps the 30-meter heated infinity pool which can be used during the summer months complete with sunbeds and poolside bar service. For guests who wish to stay active, there is a clay tennis court which can be used all year round, bikes that can be used, and gardens perfect for afternoon walks and yoga sessions. For families travelling with children, there is a kids club (4-12 years) available as well as babysitting facilities. For those interested in wine there are wine tours available with the opportunity to taste the wines and learn more about the winemaking process.
Summary
It can be a tricky task to create a luxurious and glamorous experience whilst keeping a comfortable and laid-back feel, however, this is exactly what Château St Pierre de Serjac has managed to do. Everything is perfect, from the impressive interior design, the velvet curtains to the antique bathtubs, luxurious bed linen, and high-end amenities to the food and not to mention the wine which, goes without saying, doesn’t disappoint. This coupled with an incredibly professional, helpful, and accommodating service delivered by warm and welcoming local staff makes Château St Pierre de Serjac the real winner in the region. And with so many wow factors we lost count on the first day, we urge you to go and experience them for yourself.
