Flemings Mayfair, London is a luxury boutique hotel with a history.
Flemings Mayfair, one of London’s last privately owned hotels, is a newly renovated 4-star boutique hotel which feels more like a luxurious 5-star property. The hotel offers excellent food and drinks options with the new restaurant, Ormer Mayfair by Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin as well as a Georgian inspired ‘Drawing Room’ for tea and lunch.
Locations
Located only a few minutes from Green Park, hotel guests have Mayfair, St James’s, Bond Street and Piccadilly right on their doorstep. The unique hotel which is part of SLH (Small Luxury Hotels of the World) is considered large for being a boutique hotel with its 129 rooms but feels just as warmly-welcoming as any smaller hotel with personal service and unique character.
The style and character of Flemings Mayfair
Opened in 1851, Flemings has for the past 40 years been owned by the Gulhati family who recently invested £14 million in an impressive refurbishment which was launched in 2016. The 129 bedrooms, suites and apartments were renovated, alongside a tea lounge, bar and new restaurant Ormer Mayfair. Spearheaded by interior designer Tony Filmer the inspiration for the transformation was drawn from the quintessentially British 1930’s era. The style and character of the hotel is warm, luxurious and glamorous with colours from a darker palette being used for the interior decor. The carpets are soft and the decor stylish including interesting art wall and beautiful furniture.
The Rooms
The hotel’s 129 guest rooms, suites and apartments are ranging from Classic and Delux Singles to a seven-bedroom Townhouse. I am staying at the Executive King Double room on the first floor which is spacious with its 322ft (30 square meters). Interior Designer Tony Filmer has done a wonderful job with the renovation and each guest room has received $100,000 (£60,000) worth of investments. Part of his work includes bespoke furniture and 1930s period bronze features. The bed is comfortable with quality linen and pillows as well as a cosy ‘fur’ throw. The bedhead is handstitched and has clever reading lamps attached to it. The large windows facing the street adds light to the room and are draped with luxurious curtains. There is a separate sitting area with a two-seat sofa, an armchair and coffee table. A coffee machine is tucked away together with a great selection of quality tea and a kettle.
The hotel has worked with celebrity photographer Dr. Andy Gotts MBE who is famous for his portraits of A-list actors, singers and models. A selection of celebrities who have stayed at Flemings Mayfair including Kate Moss, Naomi Cambell, Rita Ora, Hugh Grant and Harrison Ford to name a few are featured on the walls of the luxury bedrooms.
The bathroom is tastefully decorated with dark granite tiles and a ‘Roman’ -styled mosaic tiling on the floor. The shower/bath has a waterfall shower as well as a separate shower head and tap for the bathtub. The amenities provided including shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and shower gel and are all from Elemis and smells fresh. The towels are soft and the bathrobe large and fluffy.
The Drawing Room
On the ground floor next to the reception area, guests will find The Drawing Room which is a modern interpretation on a traditional Georgian drawing-room. The ‘tea room’ was created in conjunction with The East India Company to offer guests exotic and traditional tea blends in a colonial and elegant Indian-inspired setting. The walls are decorated with handpainted wall art by the famous De Gournay.
Flemings Mayfair is a great city hotel which offers fantastic value for money. It is elegant, unique and offers great service across the restaurant, bar and tea room. A perfect option for couples, solo travellers or corporates.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely!
