Moar Gut: From Baby Spa to Mountain Bikes, A Resort That Gets Family Travel Right
In Austria’s Grossarl Valley, a family holiday doesn’t have to mean compromise. At Moar Gut, a five-star, family-exclusive resort tucked into the Salzburg Alps, the traditional idea of a luxury escape is quietly being redefined—one pony ride, forest walk, and baby spa session at a time.
Run by the Kendlbacher family for nearly 30 years, Moar Gut is a rarity: a place where barefoot toddlers and stressed-out parents, screen-detached teens and nature-curious grandparents can all find their own rhythm. And crucially, their own space.
A Place to Slow Down
Moar Gut doesn’t aim for opulence in the typical alpine resort sense. Instead, the luxury here is in the spaciousness, the silence, and the considered details that let families switch off and reconnect.
There are just 46 suites—wood-panelled, warmly lit, and clearly designed with real families in mind. Children get their own rooms, often with bunk beds or themed nooks; parents get private terraces or gardens (some with outdoor bathtubs); and there are useful touches throughout, from baby monitors to blackout curtains and natural textiles. A family of five won’t be tripping over each other here.
Newer suites, made from white fir and reclaimed pine, are as sustainable as they are stylish, with raw timber surfaces and minimalist Austrian design. For babies and toddlers, a full kit of gear—nappies, baby food, high chairs, even organic creams—is provided, easing the usual stress of family travel.
Babies in the Spotlight
While many resorts cater to older children, Moar Gut places remarkable focus on the youngest guests. It’s home to Salzburg’s first Baby Spa, opened in 2024, which offers baby massage, floating therapy, and even yoga sessions in a tranquil, pine-scented setting.
For new parents, the effect is twofold: part soothing wellness experience, part gentle reminder that they’re still allowed to unwind on holiday too. The resort’s trained caregivers are available 12 hours a day, allowing parents to take a hike, book a massage, or simply drink a coffee while it’s still hot.
Nature as a Playground
Moar Gut’s real strength, however, lies in how it blends family life with its surroundings. Kids aren’t just entertained—they’re invited to explore. Days start with animal feedings on the resort’s small organic farm, followed by bread baking, hiking, or craft workshops in the Natur-Kinderhof—a 1,000 square metre play barn made entirely of natural materials.
There’s also a golden-hued ball pit, a theatre for daily shows, and plenty of spots for quieter moments, like a reading nook tucked into a window seat with views over the mountains. Outside, pedal cars, treehouses, and a sprawling adventure playground encourage hours of unplugged play.
Teenagers Welcome, Too
For older kids, the resort offers an unusually well-developed programme of activities. In winter, there’s direct access to the slopes. In summer, guided mountain bike tours, Segway treks, and via ferrata climbing routes fill the calendar. Indoors, a sports hall and 6-metre trampoline zone share space with a digital gaming lounge and chill-out rooms.
Evenings are for pizza parties, forest sleepouts, or dips in the warm outdoor pool. It’s designed to be just engaging enough to keep teens occupied, without trying too hard to be cool—which, arguably, is the key.
A Thoughtful Model for Family Travel
Moar Gut isn’t flashy, and it doesn’t need to be. Its charm lies in the way it anticipates what families actually want when they travel: space, ease, and time to be together without the usual friction points.
Yes, it’s a luxury resort. But unlike many of its alpine neighbours, luxury here means having your baby float in a heated pool while you sip mountain herbal tea nearby. It means a meal where your child eats something green without protest, or a day where no one asks for a screen.
And perhaps most notably, it means a holiday that truly works—for babies, for teenagers, for exhausted parents, and for grandparents who just want to watch the kids run wild in the fresh mountain air.
Rooms start at €630 per night for a double and up to €2800 for the largest family suites.
