The Barcelona Brand to Know: Mietis Opens on Passeig de Gràcia
Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona’s grand shopping avenue lined with Gaudí facades and perfectly poured cortados, has a new name on its roster — and this one’s homegrown. Mietis, the independent luxury label dreamed up by father-daughter duo Fernando and María Fontanellas, has just opened its first-ever flagship store at the corner of Passeig de Gràcia and Carrer de València.
If you’ve been following the brand’s rise from its Poblenou atelier, you’ll know Mietis has built a cult following for its colorful leather bags and jackets that look plucked from a Wes Anderson frame. The new flagship turns that cinematic sensibility into a space.

Designed by interior architect Ricard Vila, the boutique occupies a 1905 Gothic-Romantic building in the city’s so-called “Golden Square.” Inside, it’s a mix of microcement, anodized aluminum, and soft tulle — a contrast of raw texture and precision that feels part art gallery, part dream sequence. There’s even a private area, hidden behind a sheer tulle curtain, where clients can co-create custom pieces with designer María Fontanellas herself.
Every Mietis piece is made within 45 kilometers of Barcelona — tanned leather from Igualada, crafted in the brand’s own workshop, and now displayed in this new creative hub. That local loop feels like a quiet statement in a neighborhood dominated by big global names.
Passeig de Gràcia may be Barcelona’s catwalk of international fashion, but Mietis brings a welcome splash of color, craftsmanship, and Catalan character — a reminder that true luxury doesn’t need to shout to stand out.
