New Aussie Bites: From Sydney’s Streets to Sunshine Coast Eats
From fire-lit Sydney Harbour lounges to Bondi Beach’s newest Greek taverna and frozen yogurt with a $500 twist, Australia’s dining scene is serving bold new flavours this season. We’re talking slow lunches in the Sunshine Coast hinterland (ēthos), vinyl soundtracked dinners at Rasa, Art Deco bistro elegance at Marlowe (coming soon), waterfront feasting at Kazzi Beach Greek Bondi, and Chinatown’s wildest fro-yo bar (OH MY YO). Whether you’re chasing share plates under string lights or cocktails by a crackling fire, these new openings prove one thing: winter (and beyond) is for eating well — from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast, and every stylish bite in between, here are some of our top new restaurants…
Kazzi Beach Greek, Bondi Beach, NSW
Sydney’s favourite seaside Greek taverna, Kazzi Beach Greek, is making waves once again – this time with a brand-new location in Bondi Beach. Known for its fresh Mediterranean flavours, breezy beachside charm, and warm Greek hospitality, Kazzi is set to open its third venue on the buzzing Hall/O’Brien Street strip, adding some serious island energy to Bondi’s already dynamic dining scene.
Following the success of its Balmoral and Manly locations, the Bondi outpost continues the brand’s mission: to serve generous, flavour-packed dishes inspired by the Greek Islands, in a laid-back setting where food, family, and community come first. Expect their signature Island-style octopus, sizzling meat platters, legendary wraps, and sweet treats like baklava and rose-drenched galaktobouriko.
Founder Peter Papas describes the Bondi opening as a “meaningful milestone” – bringing Greek island vibes to one of Australia’s most iconic coastal communities.
With over 55 new jobs created and a menu designed for long lunches, sunset dinners, and everything in between, Kazzi Beach Greek Bondi promises a taste of the Aegean—no passport required.
Après on the Harbour at PIER BAR, Sydney, NSW
This winter, PIER BAR is turning down the temperature and turning up the atmosphere with Après on the Harbour – a cosy, fire-lit escape inspired by alpine après-ski lounges, right on Sydney’s iconic waterfront.
The hotel’s terrace has been transformed into a glowing winter wonderland, complete with crackling firepits, plush throws, and twinkling trees. Whether you’re winding down after work or settling in for a night out, this is the spot for golden hour grazing and harbour-view cocktails.
The menu blends comfort and flair – think Cheese & Truffle Jaffle packed with cheesy potato bake, oven-baked camembert with baguette, rich Wagyu Ragu Orecchiette, and a next-level Tuna Melt. For dessert? A candle-lit Biscoff Fondue perfect for fireside dipping.
Winter cocktails take centre stage, with five new seasonal sips crafted to warm from within, while wine lovers can settle in with a glass and a skyline view.
Open daily from 12pm–11pm until the end of August, seating options range from cosy cabanas for four to full takeovers for up to 14. With limited spots and high demand, bookings are a must.
Bookings are open now and can be made here.
Rasā House, Rose Bay, NSW
Tucked into Rose Bay’s buzzing dining scene, Rasa is a soulful nod to Southeast Asian traditions – no fusion, no gimmicks, just food with roots. With a name that means “flavour” in Indonesian and “essence” in Hindi, Rasa is exactly that: a place where every bite is tied to memory and place. Helmed by a team of chefs from India, Nepal, and Indonesia – and shaped by co-founder Vinay’s global wanderings – the menu is bold, nostalgic, and deeply personal.
Standouts? The creamy Pumpkin Gnocchi with saag sauce is a vegetarian dream, while the smoky Chicken Sate Skewers bring the zing ($9 each). Spice lovers should go straight for the Afghan-Indian Lamb Shank Boti ($44) – rich, fiery, and unforgettable. Or grab a plate of Paneer Momos with achar and cabbage crunch ($22).
Inside, it’s all earthy tones, cozy corners, and warm hospitality. Outside, the sunny courtyard is made for lazy lunches. And come Saturday, the crackle of vinyl sets the vibe — think tropical nights and distant cities.
OH MY YO, Sydney’s Chinatown, NSW
Sydney’s dessert scene just got a seriously sweet upgrade with the launch of OH MY YO — a bold, DIY frozen and drinkable yogurt concept now open at Dixon House, Chinatown.
Dreamed up by hospitality heavyweight Howin Chui (Ni Hao Bar, Kowloon Café), and powered by Executive Chef Zac Ng (ex-XOPP, Restaurant Ka), OH MY YO reimagines the fro-yo experience with playful flavour combos and a distinctly East-meets-West vibe.
The star of the launch? A luxe, limited-edition Moutai Fro-Yo — infused with the legendary Chinese spirit (yes, the $500-a-bottle kind). More adventurous options include Asian favourites like matcha, yuzu, mochi and purple rice, while sweet tooth staples like Nutella, coconut, and granola round out the 20+ topping bar.
For something sippable, the drinkable yogurt menu is just as creative — think banana oat + peanut butter, or watermelon and lychee, all curated by beverage whiz Heidi Wong.
With a nostalgic Hong Kong aesthetic, slick street culture styling, and a pet-friendly “OH MY DOG” area coming soon, OH MY YO is more than a fro-yo stop — it’s a whole vibe.
Ēthos, Sunshine Coast QLD
There’s a new reason to head for the hills in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast hinterland — and it’s called ēthos. Tucked into the lush folds of Palmwoods, this is not your average “new opening.” It’s the first public chapter of Alsahwa Estate, a regenerative agritourism project with a slow-living soul. Designed by Alex Zabotto-Bentley of AZB Creative, the space is more sanctuary than spectacle — a long, low barn that blends into the wild paddocks and whispering trees around it. Inside, tactile timber, Ghanaian pendants, and curated antique agrarian finds set a mood of understated wonder.
At the helm, hatted chef Sophie Phipps (ex-Spice Bar) leads a Mediterranean-influenced menu that’s all rhythm and restraint — think produce straight from the Estate’s gardens, dishes designed for sharing, and not a gimmick in sight.
It’s thoughtful, grounding, and quietly game-changing. ēthos isn’t trying to impress — it’s here to hold space. And with more openings ahead at Alsahwa (picnics, wellness gatherings, and long-table dreams), it’s just the beginning of a slower, more connected kind of destination.
Open Wed–Sun, 11am till late. 20 Rifle Range Rd, Palmwoods, QLD.

Marlowe, Brisbane, QLD
Fish Lane is about to get a new cornerstone. Opening September 2025, Marlowe is the latest gem from Queensland’s Fanda Group (Rick Shores, Southside), set inside the storied 1938 Merivale Flats. With its layered interiors, moody charm, and nine intimate dining and bar spaces, this Australian bistro brings vintage soul and modern elegance to South Brisbane.
At the pass is Ollie Hansford (ex-Stokehouse, Gauge), whose ever-evolving menu riffs on nostalgic Aussie classics with seasonal finesse. Think coral trout Wellington with caviar butter, duck pie with radicchio jam, and prawn cocktail tartlets that could make your nan cry. The woodfire hearth fuels a serious grill game, while the raw bar is a front-row ticket to seafood theatre.
Wine-wise, expect 150 Australian labels (plus a little French fizz) curated by Peter Marchant, including verticals from Henschke and Shaw + Smith. Cocktails channel comfort and curiosity – like a eucalyptus highball with house-made Granny Smith creaming soda.
Designed by J.AR OFFICE, the space is pure Art Deco romance with rich walnut timber, polished chrome and sun-drenched terrace vibes.
