Bangalay Luxury Villas: a winter escape to the South Coast
As we wind down the picturesque road to the South Coast, I marvel at how this drive always stops me in my thoughts, reminding me I am leaving the city and it is time to slow down. The different shades of emerald green grass sprawl across the vacant land towards the cool blue, dramatic-looking sea. The kids drop their Ipads for a few seconds and point out the cows and ask how long it is until we get there.
The best part about our sneaky one-night getaway is that it is under 2 hours from Sydney. After a week of winter sickness and being cooped up indoors, I chose Bangalay Luxury Villas as you can plug straight into relaxation and do nothing but experience all the elements required for a rejuvenating break.
On our way down we stopped at the sun-filled shores of Kiama and checked out the blowhole, stretching our legs and breathing in the crisper air, the extra space and again witnessing the bold blue and green colours of the coast. We then mosied down the road and met some friends at Berry for a long, warm lunch and a glass of cold bubbles. The tables were not busy, the vibe was slow and people smiled as I crossed their path. The little shops greeted us with tasty treats to savour and we made our way to Bangalay Luxury Villas.
Inspired by nature and designed to pay homage to the South Coast’s infamous, iconic winding beach tracks that lead to secluded sands spanning for miles, Bangalay Luxury Villas transports you immediately to a state of presence. With the renowned chef-hatted Bangalay dining restaurant at your literal fingertips, I was so pleased to be able to settle in for the night. This really is a luxurious one-of-a-kind concept, created to fill your cup with nature and the finest creature comforts combined.
Nestled amidst open spaces and secluded by natural native forest bush, Bangalay Luxury Villas is a serene retreat that effortlessly blends dark elegance with the latest styles. Upon check-in, you can’t help but be impressed by the hotel’s excellent interior design, where every detail was thoughtfully curated to create a captivating natural ambience.
From the stylish furnishings to the carefully chosen decor, it is evident that great attention had been given to creating an atmosphere of luxury and comfort.
The interior design of the Luxury Villas is truly exceptional. The seamless fusion of nature and the finer things in life creates a visually stunning aesthetic that leaves a lasting impression. Each Villa contains Air conditioning and a ceiling fan, a private deck with comfortable outdoor furniture, a complete kitchen with Nespresso coffee essentials, a complete laundry with washing machine dryer, floor heated bathrooms, luxury Aspar products with active botanicals, plenty of wardrobe space and TV with wireless for streaming entertainment.
Venturing out of the room, the property itself boasts a heated pool which, keeping in suit, feels like a natural lagoon. I recommend bringing kids bikes and skateboards as on the other side of the beach, there is a skate park and massive open space for kids to cruise around after whiling away hours at the beach.
Feeling wholesome weary, when feeling hungry, we make our way to Bangalay Dining. We can’t help but be captivated by the starry skies on a pitch-black night. With magic in the atmosphere, It is a breathtaking sight that reminds me of the beauty of nature and the wonders we often miss in the city. After a 1 minute wander, we are greeted with a warm welcome and an elegant setting that perfectly complemented the culinary delights that awaited us! The succulent-tasting degustation menu showcased the culinary expertise of Head Chef, Simon Evans who masterfully crafted each dish to perfection.
What truly set the dining experience apart was the emphasis on using the freshest local produce. From the first course to the last, each plate showcased ingredients sourced from the surrounding area, reflecting a commitment to supporting local farmers and artisans. Our highlight was the inclusion of foraged ingredients from the gardens on the beachfront just outside. The chefs expertly incorporated these elements into the dishes, adding a unique touch that celebrated the harmony between nature and culinary artistry. It was a true feast for both the palate and the eyes.
The service was impeccable and intuitive, and once our lovely waitress suggested she send dessert to our room, it was back to the cosy log fire to enjoy the night and a peaceful sleep.
In the morning an amazing a la carte breakfast awaited us with fresh local berries to start and local pastries to take on our travels.
Chatting with the local staff we check out the cocktails at brunch and all-day terrace menus, and while I could have settled in for the day, it is time to explore.
Owner Michelle is a wealth of local knowledge and is passionate about the area. She has curated the perfect list of things to do in the area and we discuss how vast and rich the amount of experiences are on the South Coast. Museums, Natural wonders, Wineries and tours galore. You can read her best tips here, https://www.bangalayvillas.com.au/whats-on/ although I highly recommend saying hi so she can tailor-make a suggestion to your party.
Michelle explains there is no specific demographic to the travellers who enjoy this treat of a concept and I can believe that. With half my Instagram feed being in Europe, I feel like I have had a truly indulgent experience without having to make the trek. A scenic waterfall and bushwalk-filled drive home or a stop at Jamberoo water park is considered, however, we do not regret the decision to enjoy a long delicious lunch in a winery instead.
One experience I need to come back for is the authentic and cultural DJIRIBA WAAGURA offers unique weekend group tours in one of their many cultural bush walks experiencing the true beauty of hidden gems along the NSW South Coast. The journey will finish with a traditional cultural activity to conclude your experience.

Their bespoke tours are designed to be an intimate and immersive experience for you and your guests. Experience nature and culture in a way that suits you. Participate in bush tucker knowledge, swim in beautiful beaches, be a part of traditional cultural activities or simply be guided through the stunning bush to sacred Aboriginal sites.
