Rosewood Bangkok, the newly opened hotel, offers ultra-luxury blended with timeless elegance.
Rosewood Bangkok ‘s location
The 27th Rosewood Hotel opened in Bangkok earlier this year in a prime location within the city’s central business district a 45-minute drive from Bangkok’s International Airport. Located amidst the heart of downtown Bangkok the hotel is directly connected to Ploenchit BTS Skytrain offering direct access to the city’s major attractions.
The Hotel Design
The shape of the dramatic 30-storey standalone property is inspired by the wai — the Thai gesture of hands pressed together in greeting and is boasting 159 spacious guestrooms including Grand Studios with large terraces and private plunge pools. Stepping inside the hotel it’s evident that this is a brand-new property, everything feels brand new in the best possible way. The design, by Celia Chu Design Associates, is modern and contemporary whilst honouring the timeless elegance of a modern-day aristocratic manor (the staff is wearing elegant yet trendy tweed-like tailored suits). There are several artefacts and artwork including metalwork sculptures (works of established and emerging Thai artists are also on display) spread across the hotel rooms and communal areas mixed with contemporary flower arrangments (lots of blue hydrangeas) and chic decor. The modern style is incredibly stylish and rich materials have been used such as marble, wood and a neutral colour palette.
The Spacious Executive Room
The Executive Room (42 square meters) is spacious, stylish and cleverly designed with a separate sitting, a large king-size bed with luxurious 600 thread-count sheets and a beautiful bathroom which all face the Bangkok skyline. The room has a feminine feel with fresh Hydrangea flowers (which can be spotted across the entire hotel), a marble and gold table and beautiful artwork on the walls and chic coffee table books. The marble bathroom (which is designed to mimic your bathroom at home) is spectacular with a large mirror, a marble, gold and teak vanity sink, a large bathtub (with a mesmerising skyline view) and a separate rain shower room with a built-in surround system in the ceiling. All amenities are stored in a cute washbag in one of the drawers and include a wooden hair brush, shaving foam and nail buffers. The cotton pads are stored in a ceramic bowl next to the vanity sink making you feel ‘right at home’ and female guests will be delighted to find the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer.
Nice extras for the digitally savvy are the BlueTooth speaker which you can plug into your iPhone (Spotify), and the QR code which gives you access to a range of digital magazines and newspapers to enjoy whilst sipping on your Nespresso coffee (or tea).
Restaurants at Rosewood Bangkok
Lakorn European Brasserie is an all-day dining venue where breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner is served. The dishes on the menu include traditional European classics mixed with a modern twist. The barbecued octopus is excellent and so is the steak tartar. The Tagliata with Wagyu beef is delicious, the French traditional Coq Au Vin very impressive and the French Fries with Parmigiano Reggiano very hard to resist. The wine list is extensive and the restaurant is also serving great cocktails. If there’s still room for dessert the Dame Blanche will satisfy any sweet tooth.
The trendy G&O is located on the ninth floor and is a stylish and upscale organic café. The contemporary menu consists of fresh cold-pressed juices, tea, coffee, wraps, and salads with an emphasis on organic and locally grown and sourced natural ingredients.
The Serenity of Sense, A Rosewood Spa
At the Sense, A Rosewood Spa on the sixth-floor guests can select from Thai and bespoke massages. The double treatment rooms are tastefully decorated in marble and wood creating a soothing and relaxing atmosphere. The bespoke massage relaxes any sore muscles from a long-haul flight. Additional treatments include facials, body scrubs, manicures and pedicures.
On floor nine next to the G&O organic cafe guest will find the swimming pool. Tucked in between the two ‘hand-shaped’ parts of the building with a vertical garden on both sides the lap pool is perfect for swimming. At the tip of the pool, there is a jacuzzi area perfect for a relaxing soak before stretching out on the sun loungers and enjoying the sweeping views of Bangkok’s skyline. Next to the pool is also where the 24/7 fitness centre is located.
