8 Tips to Stay Healthy While Travelling

When you’re traveling, it’s easy to let healthy habits slip by, especially if you’re on vacation. It is, however, possible to have a lovely experience, sample local cuisine, and explore new destinations without sacrificing a proper vacation.

Here are 10 tips on how to balance leisure with wellness while on the road. After all, isn’t it the aim of a vacation to live your best life?

Level up your immune system

Our immune system should always be on an optimal level, especially if you will be going to a place where the environment is different from what your body is used to.

It may be challenging to follow a dietician’s easy tips to boost your immune system while on the road. But at the very least, make sure to pack your immune-boosting supplements, and as much as possible, try to choose foods and drinks that are high in Vitamin C as you go out on your gastronomic journey to your chosen destination.

Keep yourself hydrated

When traveling, it’s easy to lose track of how much water you’re consuming. Keep a water bottle with you at all times, and start your day right by drinking two full glasses of water when you wake up.

Pack an eye mask and earplugs

Sleep is essential to keep our bodies healthy. You might not be able to get enough sleep at night when you travel as you might want to indulge in the local nightlife or your body may not be accustomed to the new timezone.

Whatever the reason may be, it is a good idea to have an eye mask and earplugs with you so you can sleep soundly. They can also be useful in case you want to get some shut-eye during transit.

Bring pocket disinfectants

Aside from keeping your immune system up, it is also a good idea to make sure that the surface area you touch is clean to avoid viruses and germs from harming you. Be sure to disinfect your seats, table, and room before and after using them.

Keep a distance from people who are coughing & sneezing

If you see someone who is sneezing and coughing, or if they simply look sick, make sure to be at least 6 feet or 2 meters away from them. It is said that this is the maximum distance tiny virus-filled droplets can travel and enter your eyes or nose and eventually enter your respiratory system.

Minimise your caffeine and alcohol consumption

We know this is hard for some who love the nightlife of the city, but it is better to control your consumption when you are traveling as caffeine and alcohol can cause dehydration and disrupt your sleep.

You don’t need to go cold turkey, but moderation is key if you want to sip some locally crafted beer or artisan espresso.

Know what you are eating

For some of us, it is exciting to try the local food and cuisine in the country we are visiting. But be aware and always ask what the ingredients are and how it is made. For some who may have dietary restrictions, this is necessary as you don’t want to spoil your vacation because you accidentally ate something with nuts or dairy in it.

Bring a health kit

This is something that we wish we will not use during our trip, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Bring first aid medication, band-aids, and a thermometer. If you have a prescription medication, then this is a must in your travel bag.

Final Note

When we travel, we tend to overindulge ourselves and forget to take care of our bodies. So we tend to get sick right after our vacation instead of it serving as a refreshing boost for our body and mind.

But that doesn’t have to be the case as we can find balance in exploring and enjoying the new places that we visit while still keeping ourselves healthy so we can fully enjoy our travels more.

You don't stay at the Sofitel Legend Metropole for You don't stay at the Sofitel Legend Metropole for the check-in experience—you stay because 1901 wrote better architecture than most cities can build today. Ten years after Graham Greene walked these halls, and they haven't missed a beat. The Opera House steps, the wartime tunnels underfoot, the Angelina salon where cocktails taste like history—they're all part of a legacy that doesn't need to shout to be heard. Read @janoahvankekem ´s review from his recent stay at @sofitellegendmetropolehanoi for @luxnomade on why this Hanoi icon still sets the standard.
Three hours from Hanoi. Seven hectares on the edge Three hours from Hanoi. Seven hectares on the edge of Ha Long Bay. Two buildings designed like traditional fishing vessels. One rooftop dinner that pairs Kagoshima Wagyu with Nuits-Saint-Georges. The math checks out. What makes this property exceptional isn't the awards or the price points—it's the willingness to let simple things (poolside pizza, afternoon tea with a limestone backdrop, quiet mornings at the Club Lounge) carry as much weight as the five-course tasting menus. Sometimes luxury is knowing when not to try too hard. Read @janoahvankekem ´s full review of @intercontinental_halongbay for @luxnomade on the website.
