The Sukhothai Bangkok is a luxurious and tranquil garden paradise in central Bangkok.
The Sukhothai Bangkok’s Location
The Sukhothai Bangkok is located a 40-minutes drive from Bangkok’s International Airport. Centrally located in the city’s business district and embassy quarter the hotel is close to the Lumphini Park and Chalo Phraya River as well as the buzzing restaurant scene of Sukhumvit Road. The Sukhothai is not the only five-star luxury hotel in the area, however, with six acres of land in the middle of downtown Bangkok, it’s a truly unique property offering something very special.
The Hotel Design
Driving into The Sukhothai is like arriving in an urban oasis where a luxurious and tranquil garden paradise awaits. The sheer amount of land surrounding the hotel boasts flowering lotus ponds, tropical green gardens, and a resort-sized swimming pool, providing an instant escape from Bangkok’s busy city scene (which is after all one of the busiest cities in Southeast Asia).
Behind the design of the 210 rooms (where space is key) is Australian Kerry Hill Architects. All rooms and communal areas all follow a similar design approach where natural materials such as marbles, silks, and teakwood have been used throughout the hotel.
The Club Balcony Room with a swimming pool view
All rooms at The Sukhothai Bangkok are incredibly spacious and The Club Balcony Room which is located in the Sukhothai Club Wing is no exception. The room has a king-size bed with 100% duck down pillows and duvets covered in luxurious 400-thread count cotton sheets. The bathroom, which also has a separate walk-in wardrobe, boasts a deep-soaking tub, two sinks as well as an impressive rain shower room. The bath amenities are from Bottega Veneta and the luxurious bathrobes are extra soft. Apart from a large sofa, desk, Harman Kardon audio system and a 55″ LED TV the real highlight of the room is the large private balcony overlooking the swimming pool, complete with sun lounger and dining table. Additional nice touches include the Nespresso machine, The Sukhothai’s own blend of tea as well as the easy-to-use light, house-keeping and air conditioner system.
The Sukhothai Club Wing offers privacy and excellent service
The club room guests have access to the Club Lounge on level six in the Sukhothai Club Wing. This is a quiet and smart area with comfortable sofas and seating areas with a beautiful view of the swimming pool. The Breakfast at Colonnade
Served daily in the Colonnade restaurant, the breakfast certainly lives up to its reputation as one of Bangkok’s plushest hotel buffet breakfasts (the Sunday brunch is very popular). With omelettes, pancakes, Belgium waffles, and pastries to fresh fruit and an impressive selection of noodle soups, dumplings, and sushi no one will leave hungry. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed with high ceilings creating a grand yet comfortable atmosphere.
Dinner at the award-winning Thai Restaurant Celadon
There are several dining options a The Sukhothai including the award-winning upscale Thai restaurant Celadon voted “Best Restaurant in Bangkok” by Travel and Leisure magazine. Celebrated among local and international visitors, Celadon offers a plethora of delicious Thai dishes. The grilled Hokkaido scallops with sea blite leaves and the raw wagyu beef salad are both fantastic. The Pad Thai is served with half a grilled river prawn with the noodles covered in a beautiful egg-net and the Australian beef cheeks are served in banana leaves. The dessert menu is based on coconut and the deep-fried banana wrapped with young green rice served with coconut ice cream is beautifully presented and the perfect way to finish an amazing dinner. Celadon also serves great cocktails including cocktails such as Negroni and Old Fashioned and the red house wine from Chile is superb.
La Scala is another excellent restaurant where Italian Chef David Tamburini serves up progressive Italian cuisine. Originally from Florence, he blends traditional recipes with contemporary flavours.
