Nestled within a secluded courtyard on the exclusive Place des Vosges, the Pavillon de la Reine is regally enchanting. This ivy-clad 17th century ‘Mansion of the Queen’ provides tranquillity from the bustling streets of Le Marais and as you sit in the delightful terrace enjoying a cool glass of rosé, you could even believe you are in the peaceful French countryside.
Hotel Room
Ornate splendour reigns with sumptuous fabrics and textures throughout. The Prestige Junior Suite displays a magnificent timbered ceiling, separate lounge to the bedroom, roomy king size bed and a large bathtub and shower within a well-proportioned bathroom. The lounge is ideal to relax in, with a large velvet sofa and writing desk. With two flatscreen TV’s, one in the lounge and another in the bedroom, there is plenty of space to spread out and make this suite your home away from home. The 56 rooms are all individually furnished and decorated, making each stay at this remarkable hotel a different experience.
Hotel Design/Overall
Opulent in its design and furnishings, Le Pavillon de la Reine captures the mystery and romance of Paris yet maintains an intimate private members vibe. Whether you are here for business or pleasure, you feel comfortable relaxing in the low velvet armchairs, enjoying a tipple from the well-stocked honesty bar with a good book whilst an open fire roars in the ornate fireplace.
The colour scheme is deep and rich, with warmly textured wallpaper, harmonious patterns and fabrics that create a sense of being in an aristocratic country house, a feeling enhanced by the original antique oil painting portraits, heavy drapery and intimate room layout. The individuality of Le Pavillon de la Reine shines through, something surely to be attributed to its private ownership and being family run.
An ample gym with a range of workout machines ensures you are able to work off all the delicious Parisian food on offer and there is a hot tub for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. The spa offers a wide range of treatments, from facials to massages; you just need to book ahead to ensure you can get the treatment you wish.
Restaurant/Breakfast
There is a snack menu that offers dishes such as salads and sandwiches throughout the day. The Caesar salad was a delicious, succulent whole chicken breast with salty bacon and a subtle but rich sauce. There is a range of drinks available both from the menu and from the honesty bar. The ‘Bellini Anne’ was a refreshing and piquant aperitif to start the evening off.
Breakfast is a well-spread buffet. There is a large selection of fruit, including fruits of the forest such as blackberries and raspberries. The scrambled eggs are fluffy, light and partner exquisitely with the crispy bacon and crunchy, fresh French bread and butter. There is a cheese and ham selection, and an abundance of warm croissants and pain au chocolates. The tea and coffee are ordered from your table. Breakfast most definitely is considered an important meal of the day at Le Pavillon de la Reine and you certainly won’t start your Paris day hungry!
Location
Set in the heart of the vibrant, quirky Le Marais, this is a hotel for those who wish to discover a slightly different part of Paris from the mainstream. Le Marais holds so much to discover as a neighbourhood in itself, from the Musée Picasso, to the Place des Vosges where Victor Hugo lived whilst he wrote Les Misérables, to the lively Jewish streets where you can pick up the very best falafel in Paris. Architecture abounds in Le Marais, with buildings ranging from the classical to the baroque to the gothic. Grand Boulevards Haussmanniens sit side by side with older, smaller streets that evoke a Paris of the past. You can walk down to the river Seine for a stroll along its banks or delve into the many shopping areas in and around Le Marais. Of course, all of the main attractions of Paris are still within very easy reach of Le Marais, so you can walk to the Louvre, or hop in a quick cab ride to the Eiffel Tower.
